Herb Brenner Posthumously receives 2009 Humanitarian Award from the International Dealers Association
Winston-Salem, NC – Herb Brenner, founding chairman of Amarr garage doors, was honored with the International Door Association’s Humanitarian award at the annual IDA Awards Banquet held on April 23, 2009, at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. The award was given to Brenner by his peers in the garage door industry because of his life-long devotion to a wide range of philanthropic endeavors.
The posthumous honor was accepted by Herb Brenner’s son, Richard Brenner, who is the current Chief Executive Officer of Amarr. Herb Brenner served as chairman of Amarr from the 1960s until 1994.
The most visible humanitarian achievement of Herb Brenner, along with his brothers Abe and Morris, was the establishment of Brenner Children’s Hospital in 1986 on the campus of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina through a gift from the Brenner Foundation. Brenner Children’s Hospital is dedicated to tertiary pediatric care with specialty children’s services such as chronic disease treatment, cancer/acute leukemia treatment, and infant and child cardiothoracic surgery. The hospital provides holistic, family-centered care to patients from birth to age 18 and also is home to the Winston-Salem area’s only pediatric emergency department.
“We are grateful to the people of Amarr, our dealers and the builders, fellow business owners and homeowners that we serve who have purchased Amarr products over the years,” Richard Brenner said. “Each of them also shares an important part in the honor that was given to my Dad at the recent IDA Awards Banquet.”
“The values and principles that guide Amarr today are the same as when the company was founded by my Dad and his brothers Abe and Morris nearly 60 years ago,” he added. “The three brothers started what would become Amarr as a local building supply company in Winston-Salem. Within a few years, they recognized that market demands were shifting and streamlined their product lines to focus on quality garage doors.”
Today, Amarr continues to focus on offering high quality, beautifully designed, durable and safe door access systems – all while maintaining a solid foundation of values and principles that its founders envisioned. In line with the legacy of Herb Brenner’s commitment to the local community, Amarr and the Brenner family have continued to support a wide range of nonprofit causes. Herb and Morris Brenner died several years ago, but their brother Abe Brenner, now nearly 90, still lives just outside Amarr’s hometown of Winston-Salem.
